  5. A number of eukaryotic  and  archaebacterial ribosomal proteins can be grouped
  6. on the basis of sequence similarities. One of these families consists of:
  7.  
  8.  - Mammalian S26 [1].
  9.  - Octopus S26 [2].
  10.  - Drosophila S26 (DS31) [3].
  11.  - Neurospora crassa S26 [4].
  12.  
  13. These proteins  have  114  to  127  amino  acids.  As  a signature pattern, we
  14. selected a  perfectly  conserved  octapeptide  in  the  central  part of these
  15. proteins.
